Patient “COURAGE AWARD” Recognition
Childhood
cancer is a brutal disease surrounded by a lot of uncertainty.
It takes a lot of courage to face cancer, undertake necessary
treatments and begin the process of healing, especially for
a child. Doctors, nurses or social workers nominate children
who are recognized as ‘courageous’ and each child
receives a certificate and a special gift at a party. This
recognition helps the child realize that they are special
and not alone in facing their illness.
A recent Courageous Kid Recognition Award
was presented to Christian, a survivor of Hodgkin’s
Disease. He has had several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation
in addition to a bone marrow transplant and was able to return
to school earlier this year. Kids Cancer Connection threw
Christian a pizza party and gave him several gifts, including
Senate and Congressional recognition for his bravery and determination
in fighting the battle against childhood cancer. The Courageous
Kid Award brightened Christian’s spirits and helped
him feel special.
